Internet: News, Blogs, etc

As our world grows stronger in technology, our media starts to change too.  We are offered so many choices in how we can learn what's happening in the world, so we should use that to our advantage. There are different forms of news media: the newspaper, the radio, the television, and the Internet. Among these four forms all of them have their own similarities and differences. Which form do you prefer?
While all of these are a form of media, they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Newspapers, radio, television, and internet are all the same in one aspect, they report the news and give you information without leaving your home. They keep you updated on things that are happening in the world around us. The newspaper and the Internet is something that you read while the television and the radio is something that you listen too. If you prefer to get a visual aid you might be interested in either the newspaper, television, or the Internet. Tough if you want a mental image you’d probably want to listen to the radio.
As for the difference, the layout is not that different but also- not the same. You've got newspaper, which can be purchased or delivered to your home. Radio has it's own unique layout. There are many different stations, some offering topics such as politics and religion. Television and internet offers a more visual form of media. While other news formats just offer the news or pictures, television and internet can offer live feed, and show you video of other parts of the world.
The news form that I prefer would be the Internet because today it is so easy to find out exactly what you what at that given time and it is basically the mother of all forms of journalism. Due to the rapidly changing technology in our world today, everyone is just waiting for something new to be discovered.I don't know what the future holds for media, but I expect that with our new technology we'll create an even easier way to access news. While this may seem like an impossible feat, I'm sure that people are working on developing something fresh and new!

Broadcast - Television

For this blog I was supposed to watch a news program and answer four questions on it. I don't have cable so I don't get many news channels. Below are the questions and my answers. Enjoy!
  1. What news show (or shows) did you watch?
    1. I watched a re-run segment on the Casey Anthony case that was viewed on ABC on YouTube.
  2. How would you classify this show? Local news, TV news magazine, entertainment news, sports news, etc.
    1. I would classify this show as a debate and opinion on the news.
  3. Did you see any opinion being expressed? Please quote the instances in your answer.
    1. They were commenting on why she would do such a thing and what would have compelled her to do it, as well as whether or not she was innocent. People around the country believe she is guilty, and are very vocal in their opinions to have her locked away forever.
  4. Was this show effective in informing you about a topic? What did it do right? What could have been better?
    1. The video was very informative, and helped me gain a better knowledge of the trial as well as the case.as I never payed any attention when it was first on the News.  It gave opinions on both sides of the case, as well as a lot of background information.  I believe ABC news did a very good job of portraying the story. It did drag on a little.

Broadcast - Radio

Radio is a great way to hear and use details to imagine the news your own way. There are many radio stations out there devoted to many categories of news just like magazines and newspapers are. But the radio broadcast I listened to was on 9/11. This broadcast was on one survivor of the attack on the second twin tower, given by Jacqueline Hince. She joined the news crew in about June of 2011. Before she moved to Florida, she lived in Texas as a news reporter at another news station for 4 years. She is very sympathetic throughout the story.
Jacqueline speaks after Missy Scarborough explaining and giving more detail of what she says. Both of their tones were sad, letting the listeners know neither were happy about the incidents that happened that day. Jacqueline paused in between lines to give her audience time to take in what is being said and understand it. I would consider this news broadcast credible because it’s the story of a survivor of the attack so she has facts of what happened because she was there herself.
This radio broadcast, the way it was done, words used, quotations used, all gave it that added credibility. This broadcast had a definite amount of information it was giving the audience and what was important to need to know.

Print - Magazines and Journals

I choose an article in the People Magazine. This article talked about how a 13-year-old boy from a New Orleans suburb was charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 5-year-old half-sister with wrestling moves imitated from TV. This article was published on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. When the brother of the 5-year-old, Viloude Louis, was left to babysit the girl by his stepmother said he was wrestled with her, he was practiced 'WWE' style wrestling moves. When the investigation found was that the girl died of multiple injuries, including broken ribs, lacerations of the liver and internal bleeding. This was published by Associated Press.
This is my reader response:
The kid is stupid; he was smiling when he was telling the story of how he killed his little sister. This is a horrific situation. Beside why would he do that in the first place? Obviously the 13-year-old shouldn't have been left as the "adult" in charge. Plus, what was going through his mind when he did this? That is what I would LOVE to know. This reminds me of something similar- About a boy named Jake Evans, who was around 17, who was inspired by the movie 'Halloween' and killed his mother and sister. It is also unfair to attribute the Pro-wrestling moves to WWE. Yes it's likely that he learned the moves from watching WWE, but to outright call them WWE wrestling moves is borderline libel. I have watched WWE many times before, alone and with my brother as well, and I know that they advise not to do this at home. This is a tragic story and my heart goes out to the family.

Print - Newspapers

What are the differences between weekly and daily newspapers?
Newspapers are distributed out to the public to inform people of events, weather, and other happenings around the world or in your hometown. Newspapers are categorized into two, daily newspapers and weekly newspapers. Daily newspapers are basically printed everyday of the week and consists of updated current news and is updated every day. Hence why they are called "daily" news. Weekly newspapers are printed at the end of every week and consists of news that isn’t quite relevant to current event. But the differences go beyond that.
Daily newspapers are printed every day sometimes with the exception on Sundays and some holidays like Valentine's Day and Christmas. Though are mostly are printed out in the mornings. Now, there are about 6 daily newspapers printed in a week and gives you reports on news like sports, entertainment, movie listings, and news about things that happened the day before. They can sometimes cost more than weekly newspapers
Weekly newspapers are printed every once or twice, sometimes three times, a week, hence the lower prices than daily newspapers. Weekly newspapers mainly focus on detailed stories on important events from all over the world, though usually they cover events that happen in their home town/city. In a weekly paper you can also find things about local life, style, entertainment, and what's going on in the government that week i.e. voting, new laws, etc.

What is News?

There are many ways to describe the word news, one way is that it is a broadcast or published report of news of important or recent events. It could be either good or bad; real or made up. But I believe most of the time news is meant to be about real information or topics. As long as it is brand new information that is in my personal interest, then it is "news", and as long as all the facts are correct.

If you think about it the news we get comes from everywhere. We think there is only about five types of different news when really there is more. We get it all over from television to the neighbor down the road to the article in the magazines and newspapers.

News will always be different from other ways of communication because news always go on all day, everyday and never stops for a split second. But communication does not go on all the time even though it might seem like it does. News is always constant because nothing ever stops happening in life. You could get news anywhere, I particularly like to see the news on T.V or read it off online or just hear it from my friends.

Who are Journalist?

Journalism have many definitions, but to me journalism itself is the action of informing the public about matters they may or may not know about. A journalist is somebody who can take a piece of information without adding, replacing, reversing, or changing anything, and be able to express it to the world around them. They gather information in writing and the company puts it out there for the people to read or hear. The companies may be news stations, newspapers, magazines, radio stations, etc. There are many different ways companies can get the news out there.
Journalists shouldn't be classified by a “Title” or “Degree”, as situations and topics for journalism are never the same and always differ. To measure a person’s ability to react to a topic from the past leaves no room for investigations, interviews, and other hands on research that is essential to journalism; ultimately resulting in the need for a “Journalism Degree” as pointless. A journalist should be classified by his work, by the time and effort he puts into getting out the truth to the people.
I believe one of the requirements a journalist should have is imagination because the reader need to be drawn in, in what they read feel it, as if they were in the journalism shoes. Another characteristic would be grammar and spelling a good writer needs to know how to work the words and the writing in an interesting form that any level of readers can understand. ‘‘And one of the most important characteristic is to get some real experience writing news - not working as a cashier at the Gap. A good internship will help you understand the field that you want to apply. When you can apply for the job after graduation with a college degree and some tear sheets to show the editor, that's when you have the good shot at a job.’’ [1]
One of the modern journalism would be New York Times is one of the most popular journalism even if you don’t live in New York you will still hear about it, even on the Internet. Another modern journalism would be FOX News Channel 35 is a news channel and is really popular among America. They qualify among my standards because they both meet the grammars standards and knowledge they need to know and the imagination is one of the most they stand out in New York times the writers are amazing, I've read many article with them and I do say they are wonderful.

Evolution of American Journalism

Journalism is the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media. What are your thoughts about early American journalism? My thoughts towards early American journalism are responsive. With the earliest American journalism, it was often disgustingly opinionated, yet censored; the complete opposite of what Journalism can be and what it is today. Back then, when the first newspaper was printed it was ended in arrest. When I thought about that and over the years to the present, I thought that the American Journalism today the profession seems to have become corrupt or debase (well something along that terms of words) itself.
And now that I have thought about it long and hard, if freedom of the press were not guaranteed, the American public would be deprived of two Constitutional rights: Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Being Informed.  Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press are rights of citizens in America that they can have and should be able to use. The American press would be under pressure from the government to only report what the government felt was appropriate for the public to hear. If that what was happening today, this world would be in a lot more trouble than it is now.
Throughout my journey in my journalism course I would like to learn more of the term of journalism, the rights of what was back in the olden days of newspaper and now on what's on the air now to the best of my abilities.
